P.J. Weekend Update: A look back at a mostly worthless week

What better way to kick this off than with the intro from the greatest so-gay-its-cool TV show of all time — Riptide.

C’mon, nothing beats The Screaming Mimi, and not even the Amare-Matrix-Nash trio can compete with this one. If you have $25 of disposable income (what a stupid term, right?), my suggestion is that you go over to Amazon or eBay and order the first season on DVD. The drinking game possibilities are limitless.

  • The P.J. Playlist

An eclectic mix of new, old and older rock that’s in heavy rotation on my iTunes right now.

  1. Song For Clay (Disappear Here) - Bloc Party — My favorite band to emerge in the past five years.
  2. Angelina - The Bravery — Another one of my favorite bands from the past five years.
  3. Life On Mars - David Bowie — A masterpiece. Bowie is the mother fucking man.
  4. Give Up? - Hot Hot Heat — The first single from their new album, due out later this year.
  5. For Your Life - Led Zeppelin — Robert Plant recorded the vocals from this somewhat obscure Zepp track from a wheelchair.
  6. Hang Me Up To Dry - Cold War Kids — One of the standout songs from one of the better albums of ‘06.
  7. Tymps (The Sick In The Head Song) - Fiona Apple — This is the first of many times that you will read her name on this site. She does it for me.
  8. You Don’t Know What Love Is (You Just Do As You’re Told) - The White Stripes — You either love The White Stripes or hate them. I love them, and dig the Slash-esque guitar solos on this track.
  9. Head Over Heels - Tears For Fears — Maybe the best TFF song ever.
  10. Interstate Love Song - Stone Temple Pilots — Easily one of my favorite STP tracks.
  11. You Know I’m No Good Remix - Amy Winehouse feat. Ghostface — A funky joint from a funky broad. Having my guy Ghostface on the track doesn’t hurt either.
  12. Someone Great - LCD SoundsystemPossibly the single best track of ‘07 thus far. If you buy one song on this list, make it this one.

How could it not be Brady and Brett… - Mondesi’s House

Brady Quinn and Brett Michaels (Mondesishouse)

  • The Story

As much as I’d like to roll with something about The Namesake and his crew here, or make fun of the Magic for giving Rashard Lewis a bajillion dollars, I can’t. The biggest story of the week was eight-year-old phenom Cody Paul of the Los Alamitos Pop Warner Pee Wee Griffins. I don’t care what anybody says, a kid playing at that level — like a mixture of Devin Hester, Gale Sayers and Priest Holmes — at that age is incredible. The fact that he’s white almost makes me think that he’s a computer-generated figment of our imaginations. A great white running back? And we only have to wait ten years to see him play at USC? This is too good to be true. If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the famous Cody Paul highlight reel. - The Big Lead

All I’m going to say is what I wouldn’t have done to trade places with Vinnie Chase for a day. Carla Gugino everyone…

“I guess it would be George Foreman.” - Kige Ramsey on which pro athlete he would fight from our interview with him earlier this week.”
