Cranky Al
Al Davis is denying a Chris Mortensen report that says he intends selling a piece of the Raiders to a group that wants to move the team to L.A., the city Davis himself left Oakland for back in the day before changing his mind and returning to the Bay Area. Of course Al isn’t content to merely refute the report – in Al’s world every gripe is a personal gripe, so instead of calmly offering his denial, he’s running around (well, maybe not running) calling Mortensen a liar. Actually, Al’s exact phrase was “professional liar.” That particular phrase covers just about every journalist Al has ever come across in his 200+ years on the earth I’d imagine. He does seem to harbor a particular disdain for Mortensen though. Did Mort pee in Al’s applesauce once? Did he diss one of his track suits? Did he talk shit about Matlock?
Al’s denial has convinced me of two things: 1, He’s going to sell part of the team; and 2, The new part-owners are going to move it to L.A. Then maybe Al will at last retire from running the team, and move into that nice sarcophagus he picked out for himself during the Carter administration.
