ESPN’s handsomest insider, Michael Smith, says the Browns have hired former Jets coach Eric Mangini to replace Romeo Crennel at the helm of their football team, which went completely down the toilet this year after a surprising near-playoff performance in 2007. Perhaps Mangini’s biggest job as new Cleveland coach will be sorting out the tangled quarterback situation. Derek Anderson started the year but stunk and was replaced by Brady Quinn who himself got injured and was replaced by Bruce Gradkowski who I’m guessing will not be Mangini’s #1 choice to begin behind center in 2009. One guy I know won’t be coming to Cleveland, now that Mangini’s there, is Brett Favre, whose shitty performance the last month of the season caused Mangini to get canned by the Jets. Mangini would take just about anyone before Favre at this point. He’d take a dude with a peg-leg first. He’d take John Clayton (ESPN’s least-handsome insider). He’d even take Joey Harrington…maybe.
