Plaxico No Longer Persona Non Grata
The Giants never ever wanted anything to do with pistol-packing national embarrassment Plaxico Burress again…until they found out how hard it is to win playoff games without a receiver who can make things happen against a tough defense. Now all of a sudden the Giants have softened their stance on Burress, who hasn’t played since shooting himself in the leg at a nightclub a couple months ago, and was supposedly dead to his former team.
“Obviously it’s hard to replace [Plaxico],” Giants GM Jerry Reese said in the wake of Sunday’s humiliating home loss to the Eagles. “The guy has a presence out there and when you lose that, teams play you differently. Your margin of error is way less when you don’t have a guy with that kind of presence out there. Your margin for errors goes way down so you have to capitalize on every opportunity you have.” Translation: “I like taking stands against mindless thuggery as much as the next person but I like having my job lots more.” No need to explain Jerry. You’re in a tough spot. You lost a playoff game…at home…to the Eagles. This is no time for a lot of faggy principles. You need all your horses out there, even the ones with a few screws loose. Of course there’s a little fence-mending to be done with Plaxico who probably feels like you didn’t have his back through this whole thing. Might I suggest flowers as an ice-breaker? Then dinner. Then maybe back to the crib for a little oral…
