Please Don’t Sue Me, Pacman

AUTHOR: | IN: Criminal Behavior | COMMENTS: None Yet

Pacman Jones will reportedly be cut by the Dallas Cowboys, who have decided to part ways with the controversial cornerback after allegedly receiving disturbing accounts of Pacman’s off-field activities, including an allegation that Pacman ordered some of his boys to shoot at some guys outside a club back in 2007.  Note that I’m being very careful to use words like “allegedly” when dealing with this particular story.  This is because Pacman, in a fit of rage over the wild accusations being leveled against him, has threatened to sue ESPN, the ones who originally broke the story.  Nobody slanders the Pacman [...]

L.T. Mans-Up Again

AUTHOR: | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: None Yet

What’s the difference between a strained groin and a torn groin (I personally wouldn’t want either)?  If you’re LaDainian Tomlinson, it’s the difference between playing and not playing, as he expressed to reporters while describing the injury that caused him to miss the second half of San Diego‘s upset playoff win over the Colts.  “It’s definitely torn,” Tomlinson said. “If it was a strain, I’d be able to play with it. Trust me. A lot of guys have strains.”  Yeah…and sometimes credulity gets strained too L.T.  But I guess I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and believe you [...]

No Favre in Cleveland

AUTHOR: | IN: Coaching Carousel | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

ESPN’s handsomest insider, Michael Smith, says the Browns have hired former Jets coach Eric Mangini to replace Romeo Crennel at the helm of their football team, which went completely down the toilet this year after a surprising near-playoff performance in 2007.  Perhaps Mangini’s biggest job as new Cleveland coach will be sorting out the tangled quarterback situation.  Derek Anderson started the year but stunk and was replaced by Brady Quinn who himself got injured and was replaced by Bruce Gradkowski who I’m guessing will not be Mangini’s #1 choice to begin behind center in 2009.  One guy I know won’t [...]

Jeff Jagodzinski Fears No Man

AUTHOR: | IN: Coaching Carousel | COMMENTS: None Yet

Jeff Jagodzinski ain’t afraid of your threats, BC athletic director Gene DeFilippo.  You think you can control the guy by saying he’ll lose his job as head coach at your university if he interviews for the Jets job?  He says bring it on.  He says you can take your little college job and shove it.  The NFL beckons and he is ready.  So maybe he doesn’t end up getting hired by the Jets…so what?  He finds himself another college job – they’re a dime a dozen – and in a couple years he defies another self-important AD and interviews for [...]

Andrews Works on Bush

AUTHOR: | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: None Yet

The Saints tried to downplay the seriousness of Reggie Bush‘s knee problems, claiming the major NFL bust only had a sprained ligament, but now it’s come out that Reggie required surgery on his knee and that said procedure was performed by no less a personage than Dr. James Andrews himself.  And yet the Saints are still trying to act like it’s no big deal.  “I wouldn’t want to call it minor, because he’s got a pretty significant period of rehab time,” said Saints GM Mickey Loomis. “But at the end of it, he shouldn’t have any issues.” If Loomis were [...]

Vincent Jackson Newest Member of Athlete DUI Club

AUTHOR: | IN: Criminal Behavior | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

The Chargers have a huge playoff game coming up this weekend, a fact that apparently means nothing to wide receiver Vincent Jackson who went out and got himself arrested for DUI Tuesday morning according to the San Diego media.  No, sex-crazed ex-basketball players do not have a monopoly on getting popped for drunk driving in the sports world.  The big difference though is that ex-basketball players only hurt themselves, the TV networks they appear on and the sex-workers and bookies that depend on them not being in jail.  If you’re an active member of an NFL roster and your team [...]

Cranky Al

AUTHOR: | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: None Yet

Al Davis is denying a Chris Mortensen report that says he intends selling a piece of the Raiders to a group that wants to move the team to L.A., the city Davis himself left Oakland for back in the day before changing his mind and returning to the Bay Area.  Of course Al isn’t content to merely refute the report – in Al’s world every gripe is a personal gripe, so instead of calmly offering his denial, he’s running around (well, maybe not running) calling Mortensen a liar.  Actually, Al’s exact phrase was “professional liar.”  That particular phrase covers just [...]

International House of Whup-Ass

AUTHOR: | IN: Criminal Behavior | COMMENTS: None Yet

Former Buccaneer Michael Bennett and two others are being sued by a man who claims the running back and his pals beat his ass down in an IHOP in Tampa last October.  What makes the story juicy – as if that weren’t juicy enough – is the man’s allegation that Bennett was packing heat.  This should come as no shock after the Plaxico Burress affair, which again brought to light the love affair between NFL players and their weapons.  Thankfully Bennett didn’t see fit to discharge his gun – he and his boys, including former Bucs lineman Anthony Davis, were [...]
