Bolt Like Beckham

David Beckham‘s lawyers are reportedly trying to figure out a way to extricate their world-famous client from his contract with the L.A. Galaxy, so the noted Armani model (and sometime soccer star) can remain in Italy with AC Milan, the team he has been playing for since early January as part of a loan deal.  “His desire is to stay – he hasn’t hidden that – but it’s a problem between him and the Los Angeles Galaxy,” said AC Milan’s general manager, Adriano Galliani.  Beckham’s Galaxy contract requires him to return for the MLS season starting March 8, but the team could be induced to release Beckham from said pact – if, for instance, AC Milan coughed up the $20 million they are rumored to be offering.  Should the Galaxy turn down this deal, Beckham would have to remain through the upcoming season before exercising the out clause in his contract.

My advice to the Galaxy?  Take the $20 million.  Beckham was a nice novelty act for awhile but, clearly, he doesn’t want to be in America playing minor league soccer anymore and, frankly, America couldn’t care less if he stayed.  Forcing him to remain in L.A. against his and his robot wife’s wishes would only be cruel and counterproductive.  David likes the soccer in Italy and Posh likes the stores.  Besides, Posh and Becks aren’t even really stars here.  Posh’s reality show tanked, and the most impact David had on pop culture was when he hung out with Snoop Dogg.  Soccer will simply never matter in America and neither will plastic, phony European celebs, no matter how many times they pose for pictures in their underwear.

Nice post!

MLS has no clue. They make a huge splash with Beckham but then let him dictate where he wanted to be. NEWS FLASH - If you want to get exposure for your entire league then you need to have a marquee talent on a marquee team. If Beck's team is winning titles then everybody would stop flipping through the channels and mighht watch your league a little bit.

If Kobe Bryant played for the OKC Thunder he'd sell a few jerseys but ESPN ain't showing games from Oklahoma when the team is getting beat like De La Hoya every night.

Nice work MLS. You just gave another Brit a paid vacation in the US.
