Twitter can be used for a lot of things, including ripping refs and posting pictures of your wife’s butt, but perhaps its most evil employment is as a means of delivering lame-ass April Fools’ Day bits – like the one UConn center Hasheem Thabeet perpetrated on his pals, where he made them think he had been suspended for testing positive for drugs. Thabeet’s prank tweet reads:
OMG! Why Me? SO I Failed Drug Test.. NOt GOin To Detroit.. MY Boys Do IT For Me!!! f***in suprise drug test!!! ahhh MY Life SUCKS!!!
This tweet is revealing – even disturbing – on a number of levels. First, I find it disheartening that a college junior is unable to spell the word “surprise” correctly. And people wonder why America is going down the tubes? Well, okay, he is a basketball player and not a real student. So it probably shouldn’t shock me that the young man has a shaky grasp of spelling, punctuation and grammar. I’ll let him slide on that. But what I won’t so easily forgive is his incredibly weak comedic sense. The bit is crap in both conception and execution. I will give Hasheem some points for discretion though. He has enough sense to keep his tweets private, meaning only friends can read them. Friends like the dude who runs the blog that posted this bit. Uh…Hasheem: pick your Twitter friends more wisely. And be glad you’re 7-3 and can swat shots into the cheap seats – cause if you had to make it through life on brains. Um, yeah…not great.
