Little Pac Takes Down Glass Ricky
I’m not sure what was going through Ricky Hatton’s mind when he decided to fight Manny Pacquiao, but I do know what was going through it after Pacquiao got done with him: little twittering birdies. Memo to Ricky: You know when the ref says “protect yourself at all times” during the intro? He’s not doing that for his health – he’s doing it for yours. And for the paying customers who would like to see the fight go longer than two rounds.
It’s hard for us jaded American sports fans to truly comprehend the significance of last night’s fight for people in the Phillippines, Manny Pacquiao’s home country. Not only did the entire country stop to watch the fight, but rebel groups actually called truces with the government. Who says sports can’t change the world? Unfortunately, the truce only lasted as long as it took Manny to destroy Hatton…not very long.
