Why do all wide receivers end making us hate them? Even Marvin Harrison, who we thought was a decent, soft-spoken guy, turned out to be a gun-happy lunatic who left the game with a sullied reputation. Fred Smoot Intimidated by Rookie Kevin Barnes
Incoming Redskins rookie Kevin Barnes showed confidence – perhaps even cockiness – by pointing out that the man whose job he wants, veteran cornerback Fred Smoot, is “getting a little bit older.” Now you tell me: did Smoot put the rookie in his place with the following comment, or just show that he’s worried about losing his spot? You know that when ESPN booked interviews with Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin ahead of their teams’ playoff showdown, they were just hoping the two guys would bring some Patrick Roy-level hockey smack talk to the table. Epic fail. Neither guy had much of anything to say about the other guy; in fact, the two guys put together don’t even have the charisma of a shoebox. Maybe hockey’s real problem, when it comes to getting back to prominence in the sporting world, is that its players are just dull as dishwater.

The Celtics and Bulls like playing basketball so much, they just can’t stop at regulation. ESPN Classics has another instant classic. J.A.
