Rafael Nadal was upset in the fourth round of the French Open by a Swede not named Stefan Edberg (of course, since Edberg is about 50 and would have no shot against Nadal, unless Nadal went into the match with two broken feet). This was a terrible blow to Nadal, Nadal fans, Roger Federer fans who hoped their guy would get a shot to redeem himself against Nadal in the final, and most of all, to people who enjoy watching a hunky man ply his trade on the field of competitive sports. It was not, however, a bad day for people who can’t stand giant canary-yellow headbands. They were happy to see Nadal go.
The women’s side also saw a big bummer of an upset, when smoking hot Ana Ivanovic was ousted by Victoria Azarenka. This was a somewhat less-shocking upset than the Nadal one since, though Ivanovic won the French last year, no one thinks she’s all that good. They just enjoy looking at her. Those who watch women’s tennis primarily for the visual stimulation will now have to content themselves with Maria Sharapova, who ain’t aging well, and Serena Williams, who from the waist down could easily be mistaken for Shaquille O’Neal.
