We May Now All Stop Caring About Calvin Borel

Calvin Borel became the most famous jockey in America after winning the Kentucky Derby on a gazillion-to-one longshot, then increased his fame by riding a filly to victory in the Preakness.  Saturday, Borel attempted to extend the scope of his dominance by claiming the Belmont Stakes, back on Mine That Bird after temporarily forsaking him for Rachel Alexandra.  Unfortunately, Mr. Borel was not so successful on his second mounting of Mine That Bird as at the Derby:  he lost, to another horse with an avian name, Summer Bird.  And now Calvin Borel, once the toast of the fringe-sporting world, is back to being just another short guy in a weird outfit.  And we can stop thinking about horse racing until next year’s Derby.
