Tiger Woods was at the bottom of the first page of the leaderboard going into the final round of the Memorial, not really in it unless you’re a network golf announcer who is contractually obligated to believe Tiger has a shot at winning no matter how far behind he is and no matter how poorly he’s played. But, wait a second…this time Tiger really was in it, as he proved by shooting a final round 65, including birdies on the last two holes, to blow by the field and defeat Jim Furyk by one stroke. Rounds like that are, I guess, why the other golfers are all allegedly intimidated by Tiger, though I still don’t know if I totally buy that the guy has such a huge psychological stranglehold on his competition. The myth that Tiger always prevails and that the guys up against him always wilt is just that, a myth…but for one day the reality lived up to the legend.
