Red Sox Extend Ownage of Yankees

The Red Sox own the Yankees this year, having won all six of the teams’ meetings, including the one Tuesday night, which they won 7-0 behind Josh Beckett.  To put this in historical perspective:  the last time the Red Sox owned the Yanks to this degree at the start of a season was in 1912 when they beat the then New York Highlanders (no they did not wear kilts or brandish swords instead of bats, nor were they in any way immortal) 14 straight times.  Of course, in those days the Red Sox were arguably the most dominant team in the American League, while the Highlanders were perpetual cellar-dwellers.  Those fortunes would reverse a few years later when the Sox sold Babe Ruth to the Yanks and…I guess you know the rest.

Speaking of big-swinging left-handers:  David Ortiz appears to have completely turned it around after his early Papi Stinks phase.  He has now collected a hit in six straight games and on Tuesday jacked his third bomb of the season.  He’s got that batting average all the way up to .198 now.  Look out Mendoza Line, here comes Papi.
