That memo I sent out to baseball fans informing them that Manny Ramirez has been suspended much of the season and therefore shouldn’t be voted into the All-Star Game must’ve finally gotten around to everyone, because Manny has dropped to 7th in voting for the NL outfield. The top 3 now are suspected roid-head Raul Ibanez, Ryan Braun of Milwaukee and Carlos Beltran who is currently on the DL with a bruised bone.
Now, I realize Manny is a sweet guy and a hell of a minor league tune-up appearance masher, but I’m sorry – he just doesn’t belong in the All-Star Game. Those spots should be reserved for guys who put up the numbers every day from the start of the season, or at least have a couple great months after a long DL stint, like Joe Mauer. And I haven’t even mentioned the whole performance enhancing drugs thing, which, frankly, should mean automatic disqualification from things like All-Star Games.
Kudos to the fans for getting this one right. Now if we could just get them to realize how dorky they look when they combine player jerseys with khaki shorts, we’d be making real progress.
