Kobe Bryant Visits Conan O’Brien
Conan O’Brien‘s 100% L.A. now. He had Finals MVP Kobe Bryant on his show, and later this week, he will be getting breast implants. Two nights ago he was seen staggering out of a club with Juliette Lewis. They went to Adrian Grenier‘s place where Conan completely flipped out, ripping his clothes off and running around the lawn screaming, “I shot J.R.!”
Sosa to be Probed…by Congress
Confirmed juicer Sammy Sosa is not going to just get to skate on telling Congress he never did steroids. AP reports (via SI.com): A congressional committee will look into former baseball slugger Sammy Sosa’s denial that he used illegal performance-enhancing drugs in light of a report that he tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug in 2003. The chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, Democratic Rep. Edolphus Towns of New York, says that the committee takes seriously suggestions that a witness had been misleading. Towns said in a statement Wednesday that he will determine the appropriate steps following [...]
Rain Wrecks First Day of U.S. Open
The U.S. Open is supposed to be going on right now, giving me something to do while I wait for the Melatonin to kick in, but alas, nature has elected not to cooperate. Right now the Bethpage Black area looks like something out of a terrible Morgan Freeman/Christian Slater movie. A quick check of Doppler Radar shows that it’s probably going to be raining for some time yet, so unless Tiger can get the Big Guy on the horn and tell him to close the floodgates, golf fans are going to be shit out of luck.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are saying so long to Kevin McHale after nearly 15 years. This is big enough news on its own, given that McHale did a decent job last year as their coach and could very well have been retained in that capacity, but it became even bigger news when the story leaked out prematurely thanks to Timberwolves player Kevin Love and his Twitter account. “Today is a sad day,” Love tweeted in the wee hours of Wednesday morning. “Kevin McHale will NOT be back as head coach this season.” Love evidently learned the news via text message from [...]
Mel Hall Convicted of Child Sex Abuse
Some of you may remember Mel Hall as a decent slugger with the Yankees back in the early ’90s. Those with good memories for home run trots may recall Hall’s as one of the longest, slowest and most asinine ever witnessed on the planet earth. Aficionados of Jheri Curl may remember Hall’s trend-setting hairstyle. From today on, however, Mel Hall will be remembered for only one thing: being convicted of sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl while coaching a youth basketball team. “A Tarrant County jury took about 90 minutes to convict the 48-year-old Hall on three counts of aggravated sexual [...]
Brandon Marshall seems to think his trade out of Denver is a done deal, if this new posting on his blog BMarshall#15 is any indication: To whom it may concern. Life is filled with change, and where I am in my life now change is probably best. It’s hard leaving an organization ran by one of the best owners in all of sports, and someone who’s been there for me through my ups and downs. The hardest thing was hearing Mr. B wish me luck in the future, but we both came to the conclusion that this is probably the [...]
Kill a Man With Your Bentley, Get 30 Days in Jail
I don’t know what the regular penalty is for running over and killing a pedestrian while drunk, but for Browns receiver Donte’ Stallworth, it’s 30 days in the slammer. Stallworth has reportedly already begun serving the sentence, which was agreed upon in a plea deal that also saw him coughing up an undisclosed financial settlement to the family of the deceased. Stallworth will also have to spend two years in house arrest and eight years on probation, and still faces discipline by the NFL. “I accept full responsibility for this horrible tragedy,” Stallworth said in a statement. “I will bear [...]
