A quarter of the NFL season is now in the books and here is a short recap of Week 4 for your reading enjoyment. If you’re a fantasy fanatic, here is an entertaining look at the past week from that particular perspective.
So I woke up this morning and the first thing I read was that San Diego Chargers head coach Norv Turner bristled at the contention that defensive line had been manhandled by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Huh? Did Turner even watch the game on Sunday night? Perhaps the news that Rashard Mendenhall was just named AFC Offensive Player of the Week should be enough to convince Norvie that his defensive line was nearly non-existent throughout the entire game.
How non-existent? Well, I think the Kardashian sisters actually put up more resistance when a professional athlete is trying to get in their pants. The entire defensive line’s performance was absolutely pathetic. In addition to Mendenhall running at will, there was literally no pressure being applied to Ben Roethisberger in the pocket. None.
While I didn’t expect the Chargers to win the game in Pittsburgh, the defense should at least have shown up for the first three quarters. Like it or not, Turner needs to accept responsibility for his team’s putrid performance and inability to get out of the gate game after game. San Diego always seems to be playing catch up and unless changes are made during the bye week, it’s highly questionable whether the team will even make the playoffs in an awful division.

After reading about Turner and the Braylon Edwards trade to the New York Jets, I saw that Michael Crabtree finally signed on the dotted line in San Francisco. In addition to agent Eugene Parker, evidently MC Hammer was part of the team that negotiated Crabtree’s deal. Yes, that would be the same MC Hammer who squandered over $30 million and was forced to declare bankruptcy. What…Lenny Dykstra wasn’t available to sit on Crabtree’s side of the negotiating table too?
At first glance, Hammer’s involvement seems to be more than a bit illogical. However, upon further reflection it probably isn’t a bad idea. Hammer can definitely provide Crabtree with a lot of sage advice about how not to blow his new found fortune. All I know is that if it means we’ll get to see Hammer in those ridiculous outfits on a regular basis then everybody is a winner!
