Faux Twitter Tweet of the Day

My choice of road beef was an embarrassment to ESPN and I will seek treatment for an addiction to plus sized production assistants.

Steve Phillips      October 26th

Less than a week after acknowledging a relationship with a 22-year old production assistant, Steve Phillips has been fired.  Last night, ESPN network spokesman Josh Krulewitz released the following statement about the termination:

“Steve Phillips is no longer working for ESPN.  His ability to be an effective representative for ESPN has been significantly and irreparably damaged, and it became evident it was time to part ways.”

Was Phillips fired for cause?  Absolutely.  Let’s cut through the legalese bullshit and face facts.  He was terminated cause of his hideous choice of road beef.  ESPN was “irreparably damaged” by an on air personality hooking up with such a distasteful and undesirable woman.

A representative for Phillips indicated that he was “entering a treatment facility to address his personal issues.”   No kidding.  What kind of treatment facility though?  Will Phillips be receiving treatment for drug addition? Alcohol addiction?  Sexual addiction?  This is pure speculation, but I’d guess that Phillips will end up at CCA or Chubby Chaser Anonymous…an intensive 12-step program for guys addicted to hefty and homely production assistants.

ESPN’s decision doesn’t surprise me at all.  In fact, on Friday I predicted that Phillips’ leave of absence would be permanent.  Although I’ve never been a huge fan of Steve’s work (both as a GM and analyst), I do wish him well in overcoming his addiction.  As additional details surface about Phillips’ recovery, I’ll be sure to pass them on to you.
